It's been a while and The Big Tidy Up
Apparently not much has gone on in the last 5 years since it has been quite some time since I had a post. I belive the experts suggest having a theme in order be successful in social media, but I don't have one. My theme changes by the day. Maybe that is ok for my anti-social media since I am not sure Blogs are really where it's at these days anyhow.
The theme of the moment is Marie Kondo since she is all the rage these days. What I have realized by attempts at the KonMari method is that I am super lucky because I have so many things that spark joy when I hold them. Perhaps others just are not as lucky or do not have as much joy in them. The T-Shirt I never really wore but it has the name of the beach bar that I used to go to with my grandparents. It's a bit sentimental and nothing I need to keep to have the memory but still I see that T-shirt and have a moment of joy. The scarf I love but was expensive and I don't want to ruin it so I don't wear it, but when I try it on in my house - lots of joy. Will I feel more joyful if I wear or get rid of these things? What do I do with them? It can go either way so .... I thank them and carefully KonMari fold them and put them back in my drawer. Not a life changing magical success, but I don't feel that bad about it. And I have so much more room for more stuff now that I KonMari folded everything. The KonMari folding in the drawers IS awesome. I am also going to try hanging my clothes with heaviest and longest to the left. I am not sure what that will do for me but apparently it is better.
I have decided to give up trying the everything out at in a pile method. it didn't quite work for me but I did have a pile of clothes for a few months rather than a closet and drawers which was actually life changing. I have also tried to do it in segments like hats, scarf and gloves - very limited success. So I am going with a new method. I am going with the 10 items a day removal method and some days I am going to skip and some days I might just double up if I have more time. And no judging, if one day I get rid of 10 paperclips well it's still 10 things. Do I also have to add on for the things I buy each week? Probably yes - but we will see.
Will I still have more than I need as I do this - probably yes - but Marie Kondo - does every piece of your white clothing you have in your closet really spark joy or are there some things you just want to keep.
As I think about this, I have a flashback of my very favorite book as a child - "The Big Tidy Up" - so maybe I should just get a giant box and re-evaluate. The girl in the story did have a life changing experience when she cleaned up her room. Something to think about. Luckily I kept that book though there were probably moments when it did not bring me as much joy as it will today.
